Spanish factory workers in the thirteenth century used to burn and braid a plant called esparto to make the soles of their shoes. They employed seamstresses to use a linen fabric to create the heal and toe and began selling the shoes to anyone from military personnel to members of the clergy. The process of making espadrilles evolved thru the centuries til the early 1960's when a wildly famous designer, Yves St-Laurent, asked for an espadrille with a heel. First of all, they go with everything... dresses, cut off shorts, rompers, crop jeans. I could keep going. Secondly, they are very comfortable. I read quite a few reviews before purchasing and the general consensus was that the comfort level is solid but I did want to see for myself. I am now totally convinced! I can't give any reviews on these because I haven't gotten to try them yet. But the people I know who've gotten them have liked them so far! These Black Steve Madden Ankle Tie Espadrilles are next on my list of shoes to buy followed up with the most adorable Vince Camuto Bow Back Espadrilles. ALL the heart eyes for the bow detail on the back.I don't wear wedges all the time, so I also like having a cute pair of flats to throw on and these Strappy Flat Sandals from Target are literal perfection.
